Golden Rules of Communication
When something bothers us, we easily start talking about what the other person is doing wrong. Often, however, it is more useful to describe what we actually see or hear, how it affects us, and what we would need to be different. The same principle works the other way around: instead of defending ourselves immediately, we can first make sure that we correctly understand what the other person is experiencing and needs.
